The Meaning of Kintsugi (KINT-soo-gee)

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the damaged areas with gold seams. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, something to be embraced and valued, as opposed to something to discard or cover up. As with pottery, things can and do fall apart in life, and uninvited challenges and mistakes are how we learn, grow, and thrive. Your broken parts are opportunities to rebuild and redefine yourself. You can champion life scars instead of hiding or disguising them. My therapy practice is not just a healing methods a belief that the breaks and repairs are a valuable part of your story, and you are more beautiful for having been through your unique journey.

My Approach

Kintsugi Counseling Services is client-centered, meaning I try to get to know my clients as they see themselves, meet them where they are in their life journey, and then gently nudge them toward the life they want to cultivate. The treatment plan is an ongoing process that is continuously collaborative with the clients. Just as a well-fitted suit or dress needs customization, so does a treatment plan.

Why Concierge Therapy versus traditional hourly sessions?

Quite simply, it serves you better. Because treatment is not contingent on health insurance or managed care companies, I can bypass insurance company restrictions and offer personalized services with no barriers. Insurance companies often limit the session length and the number of sessions a client can attend, require a diagnosis, and they can request copies of your clinical notes with just cause, which is an invasion of your privacy. Adopting a concierge business model allows me to treat everyone without restraints from outside sources.
